Prepare for the work

Jeremiah 1:18-19 (MSG)

“Stand at attention while I prepare you for your work.
I’m making you as impregnable as a castle,
Immovable as a steel post,
solid as a concrete block wall.
You’re a one-man defense system
against this culture,
Against Judah’s kings and princes,
against the priests and local leaders.
They’ll fight you, but they won’t
even scratch you.
I’ll back you up every inch of the way.”
God’s Decree.

Are you ready to begin the work that God is preparing you for? He has been strengthening your character with patience, stamina and passion.

He has also been putting together all the talents within you to equip you for this moment.

You will be hurled into a divine work but you will also need to remain solid, steadfast and unshakable through it.

You may come up against supernatural powers that dominate this culture, opposition in the high places of influence and spiritual forces in the heavenly realms. But you are empowered to conquer them and come out without even a scratch.

God promises that even with all of this opposition to the work, He will back you up. He is behind you all the way. And if God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31b NIV)

Build

Colossians 2:7 (MSG)

“My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving.”

Has God been teaching you about a certain construction and revealing to you a plan, a blueprint of how He wants to bring this project to pass?

It may be a physical construction involving materials or a building of a great harvest of relationships and souls.

He may have been giving you strategies for a great extension on something you begun, or perhaps this is a wall He is starting from scratch. Whatever the case, your time seeking Him for the framework is coming to an end.

You are about to be released into the work. Get ready to start building with what He has shown you, using the revelations and strategies seen in your secret place.

Start living out what you’ve spent a long time learning about. Now that you’re deeply rooted in Him, go forth with confidence and watch Him build through you, what you could never have done without Him.

When God takes away your comfort

Jonah 4:6-7 (NLT)

‘And the Lord God arranged for a leafy plant to grow there, and soon it spread its broad leaves over Jonah’s head, shading Him from the sun. This eased his discomfort and Jonah was very grateful for the plant. But God also arranged for a worm! The next morning at dawn the worm ate through the stem of the plant so that it withered away.’

Just when you feel God’s hand of protection shading your life, in a split second the worm has come to demolish your last little bit of comfort.

Under the shade of your insecurities and problems you were quite content to pass the days away and just ‘get through’ this life.

All of a sudden you are left naked and exposed coming face to face with your issues. You even go looking for your little leaf, but guess what? It’s GONE!

God has a purpose for taking away your comfort. It brings to the surface impurities from deep within your heart that you never even knew existed; undealt with disappointment, bitterness, ungratefulness, hurt, unforgiveness and/or fear.

During these times, God is creating an environment for change in your life. It’s time to embrace the confronting situations, tackling them head on.

God’s concerns are far greater than our comfortable surroundings so allow Him to complete the work He began.

Your time to arise

Matthew 3:13-17 (NLT)

Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?”
But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.” So John agreed to baptize him.
After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

This was Jesus’ moment of change; a defining line in His life. He had spent thirty years in preparation for this day and the days that followed.
This was God’s time to begin to show His glory to the world through the ministry of Jesus. As soon as the dove descended and the Holy Spirit anointed Him, He was ready to enter into His ministry.

Likewise, your time has arrived in which God is propelling you into your field of influence. He has been disciplining and preparing you through this past wilderness season where you have come up against giants and powers far too strong for you.

But all this was required in training you for this moment where the work He has shown you is now upon you.

Just like Jesus, you have now been given the go-ahead to carry out the projects and ministry commission He has prepared you for.

Your dove has landed and your time is here to ‘carry out all that God requires’ (v15)

Overburdened? Stressed?: Share the load

Exodus 18:17-18 (NIV)

Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.

Are you a workaholic? Do you struggle to say “no”?
Or are you afraid that if you ask someone to help, they won’t do it to your standard?
Or do you thrive off of the praise and encouragement of people whilst you are burning yourself to the ground?

If this is you, it’s time to stop trying to do everything on your own. Jethro warns Moses of the problem he could foresee and quite evidently Moses was becoming overburdened. He was coming out of God’s will by doing too much; stuff that God didn’t even want him doing in the first place. So consequently he was wearing himself out.

What a great message to all of us. If your work is burning you out then perhaps this advice is also for you.

The vision is huge and how can God expect us to physically be able to do it all on our own? The fact is, He doesn’t.

Sometimes He will reveal a big picture of what it looks like and in our pride we assume responsibility for far more than is required of us.

We need to pray and trust God to bring people to help us, as well as getting behind the visions of others.

As we work together to build, we will not only develop relationships, but others will be fulfilled in their gifting also.

You may be robbing someone else of a blessing that they have an opportunity to invest time into. By activating them, could even set them free from depression and make them come alive and shine.

Sometimes God may change our role but we are still trying to do the tasks we were doing before. So one thing is added onto another and nothing gets done effectively.

Let’s take the advice from Jethro, begin to set boundaries, and learn to say “no” if it’s not His will for us. Delegate when required, learn how to oversee, and do our part by coming under the vision of those leading us.
