When the people ask, “Why are you doing this?”

When God gives us instructions or requires something of us, often it is hard enough for us to understand the ‘why, when and wheres’ let alone outsiders.

This is precisely what happened to two of Jesus’ disciples who untied the colt ready for His triumphant entry to Jerusalem.

These disciples were simply obeying their Master and got questioned along the way.

Mark 11:4-5 (NIV)
They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?”
(Read Mark 11:1-11 for full text)

Sometimes the Lord may ask us or require us to do something that seems peculiar, illogical or unnatural to onlookers.

People will question motives, if you’ve heard correctly, and try and make natural sense of it. “Why are you moving there, why are you waiting so long, why are you investing time in that project, why aren’t you thinking long term?”…etc

Sometimes there is no logical explanation, as in the disciples’ case but they just obeyed. They didn’t understand all that Jesus was doing. But they knew what the Master had told them to do, so they did it.

It may not all be crystal clear because ‘we know in part’ (1cor 13:9). So don’t be moved by the opinions of others, because you will be questioned, but continue to be led by Jesus and obey anyway. Through your obedience, you also will find yourself carrying the presence of God into your town, where all men will worship shouting Hosanna in the highest!
