The Lord is your allotment

Joshua 13:33 (NLT)

‘But Moses gave no allotment of land to the tribe of Levi, for the Lord, the God of Israel, had promised that he himself would be their allotment.’

What an amazing promise to the tribe of Levi. They may have thought that they had missed out, that there was no land allotment for them but God Himself would be all that they required!

They were also given the most prestigious job, as Deut 10:8-9 tells us,
‘to carry the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant, and to stand before the Lord as his ministers, and to pronounce blessings in his name. These are their duties to this day. That is why the Levites have no share of property or possession of land among the other Israelite tribes. The Lord himself is their special possession, as the Lord your God told them.’

They found all that they needed in serving the Lord and we also need nothing more than to carry His presence and bless His name as the Levites did.

When God Himself is everything we need and desire, we will be so fulfilled in doing His work.

And because of God’s love for them and their devotion to Him, He didn’t let them go without physically either. They were scattered throughout the other tribes and given special towns to live in (see Numb 35:1-8). Numbers 18:21 also states, ‘As for the tribe of Levi, your relatives, I will compensate them for their service in the Tabernacle. Instead of an allotment of land, I will give them the tithes from the entire land of Israel.’

How’s that?! They got ten percent of the entire land of Israel. That’s significant. He is all you need and all He has is yours.
