Joshua 3:1-4 (MSG)
‘Joshua was up early and on his way from Shittim with all the People of Israel with him. He arrived at the Jordan and camped before crossing over. After three days, leaders went through the camp and gave out orders to the people: “When you see the Covenant-Chest of God, your God, carried by the Levitical priests, start moving. Follow it. Make sure you keep a proper distance between you and it, about half a mile—be sure now to keep your distance!—and you’ll see clearly the route to take. You’ve never been on this road before.”’
The covenant-chest of God which represented His presence was sent out before the people. As soon as they saw and became aware of the chest they were to begin moving. As they began to follow it, they would see accurately the direction to head in, even though they had never been down this road before. So God guided them in this way.
When you feel an impression from the Holy Spirit you must start travelling forward. There is no greater time to move than when you feel the Holy Spirit propelling you. It is this unction that confirms you are moving at the right time.
Once we have received the prompting to follow the Lord we must also respect His command to “keep a proper distance”. Only then will we see clearly the route to take.
As you begin to progress in this way God will direct you on your course and give you the guidance you need. So wait for His presence, keep a proper distance, and move!
