Matthew 14:23 NLT
‘After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.’
At the end of a tiresome day Jesus got away from the havoc in the town and disappeared into the hills. There is something peaceful and serene about heading into the hills. It is a place of solitude away from the distractions of life.
Sometimes in your home there is background noise, jobs nagging at you, kids crying out for your attention and phone calls. You go down the street and run into people and get held up at the checkout for example. But sometimes you’ve just got to get in the hills so you can appreciate God’s creation and separate yourself from the daily activities for a time.
Jesus found rest in being alone with His father in this way. He knew how to get quiet and pray to Him on His own without interruption from any outside source. This is an important skill to develop. Wait on Him and remain with Him.
Take the time today to put aside the business and escape to the hills by yourself as Jesus did. You will find that He comes to you and speaks to you as you draw near.
God has something in store for you and He will certainly not disappoint.
‘I lift my eyes to the hills, from where my help comes from. My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.’ Psalm 121:1-2
